The Citizens for Homeowners Insurance Reform has grown to over 3000 members representing all towns on the Cape and the Islands.
We are looking to stop the rise in homeowners insurance costs and reduce the wind deductibles. We want to stop the practice of "redlining" insurance on Cape Cod.
If you sell insurance in Massachusetts, you sell insurance in all of Massachusetts. We want equal insurance rates and the ability to place a claim, if necessary, without the fear of being dropped. We are looking for "Consumer Protection" at the State House thru our Legislators and within the Office of Insurance thru our Commissioner of Insurance and our Attorney General.
The Insurance Industry needs to be more publicly transparent with better notice on hearings and policy changes. Better public notice for rate increase hearings are needed. We ask for better communication from our Legislators on upcoming hearings and meetings related to the citizens and homeowners insurance.
We are reaching out to Boards of Selectmen, The Assembly of Delegates, the Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Realtors, and all Cape citizens to join our crusade. We are reaching out to the non-resident tax payer in Coastal Massachusetts to call their own reps and senators in their home districts and ask them to pay attention to this important issue.
We are working in the areas of:
Legislation: We need to support bills that will bring homeowners insurance savings to the people.
Research: We must research past legislation to understand why the homeowners insurance costs have risen so quickly and then take action to overturn any legislation that can correct the problem.
Sign on Citizens: We need to continue to sign all property owners on Cape Cod and other Coastal Massachusetts communities.
Lobby: We need presence at the State House and in the Office of Insurance. Our members must be seen at the Governors Office, Attorney Generals and Commissioner Office. We must stop in at our Senators and Representatives offices to let them know we want change.
